Fremantle Dockers Tickets

Keep up to Date With All the Fremantle Dockers' Happenings

From cruising into the finals in 2022 to ending up 14th in 2023, the Fremantle Dockers had a bit of a rough ride in 2023. The Dockers are still a young squad brimming with potential, so there's definitely hope that they can bounce back strong. But 2023 was a bit of a letdown.

It's hard to sugarcoat it—Fremantle underachieved. They went from 15 wins in 2022 to just 10 in 2023, dropping a hefty nine spots on the ladder. Injuries to key players like Sean Darcy and Will Brodie didn't help, but the real killer was their sluggish start. They stumbled out of the gates, and it was tough to recover from that.

About this Event

The Fremantle Dockers 2023 season review

On the bright side, the Dockers did see some promising performances from their young guns. Jye Amiss, Sam Sturt, and Josh Treacy stepped up in the forward line, with Amiss being a standout. He snagged some impressive contested marks and booted 41 goals across 22 matches.

Fremantle tried to play it safe and build from the back, but it just didn't click. They started the season with only two wins from the first seven games, which set the tone for a tough year. They did pick up the pace mid-season, showing more speed and run-and-carry, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the competition's top teams.

Caleb Serong was a shining light in an otherwise dim season. As the Dockers' sole All-Australian representative, he led the league in disposals and ranked sixth for clearances per game. He really stepped up as the main man in midfield, even overtaking Andrew Brayshaw.

The Fremantle Dockers' promising 2024 season

The Fremantle Dockers: Finals-Bound in 2024. It's a bold claim, but history's on their side: when Fremantle kicks off the season 3-0, they find themselves in the finals come September. And they’ve done it again in 2024, sparking the fans' early cries of "Flagmantle".

The Dockers' thrilling victory over Adelaide was a statement. The Dockers showcased their defensive prowess with 51,037 fans in attendance—the biggest non-Derby crowd in their history. This marks only the third time they've started a season with three straight wins and the previous times? They reached the semi-finals in 2010 and the preliminary final in 2015.

A major factor in their perfect start is their rock-solid defence. After three rounds, Fremantle's backline is the best in the competition, allowing just 60 points per game. This newfound defensive hunger sets them up beautifully for a return to the top eight.

Captain Alex Pearce has been a standout, shutting down Adelaide's Taylor Walker, who scored nine goals the last time he played at Optus Stadium. Luke Ryan's intercepting skills are better than ever, and Jordan Clark’s leadership, defensive commitment, and tackling pressure have been a joy to watch.

Fremantle held Adelaide to just one goal in the entire second half. They repelled 22 straight inside-50s without conceding a goal, a testament to their defensive tenacity. And they’re doing all this without Brennan Cox and Oscar McDonald, both sidelined with long-term injuries.

In 2022, Fremantle had the second-best defence in the league, just behind Melbourne and ahead of the premiers, Geelong. They slipped to 12th last year, but they’ve bounced back. The last five games of 2023 showed promise as they tightened up significantly, conceding just 60 points per game, down from an average of 83. If they keep up this defensive brilliance, there's every reason to believe Fremantle will be a serious contender at the business end of the season.

Fremantle Docker's best hand ahead of the trade Raid

The Fremantle Dockers are gearing up for an exciting off-season, holding the best draft hand in the competition thanks to their strategic moves last year. With two top-10 picks and four within the first 25, the Dockers are in a prime position to bolster their squad significantly.

Fremantle is setting its sights high, courting out-of-contract Tiger Liam Baker and eyeing Shai Bolton, who still has four years left on his deal at Punt Road. The Dockers' impressive draft arsenal will be crucial in these aggressive trade period plans.

As of round 18, the Dockers hold three first-round picks:

No. 7 (tied to Collingwood)

No. 10 (tied to Port Adelaide)

No. 14 (their own pick following a recent defeat to Hawthorn)

The selection from Collingwood is a significant piece from the Lachie Schultz deal last off-season, while the Port Adelaide pick resulted from a picks swap that facilitated Port's quartet of trades. Additionally, Fremantle has a fourth pick in the first 25, tied to St Kilda via the Liam Henry trade last year.

Gold Coast and Sydney are also sitting pretty, with Gold Coast holding three top-20 selections and Sydney having a Kangaroos assistance package selection and its own first-rounder. In contrast, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, and Port Adelaide are heading into the trade period without a first-round pick, highlighting the competitive advantage Fremantle holds.

With this strong draft hand, Fremantle is well-positioned to make significant moves and reinforce their squad, setting the stage for a promising 2024 season and beyond. The Dockers' aggressive strategy and draft capital could see them land key players and build a formidable team for the future.

Get ready for Fremantle's top-tour push (and the return of Sean Darcy)

The Fremantle Dockers are gearing up for a top-four push, and a key element in their strategy is the return of their star ruckman, Sean Darcy. After missing last weekend's game against Hawthorn due to a concussion, Darcy is on track to return for the crucial clash against Melbourne.

Darcy's absence was felt in the loss to Hawthorn, where Fremantle struggled against former Docker Lloyd Meek. Despite Luke Jackson's impressive performances leading the ruck, the Dockers missed Darcy's strength and presence at stoppages. The Dockers are eagerly anticipating Darcy's return for the game against Melbourne at Optus Stadium. His ability to dominate the ruck and provide first use to Fremantle’s midfielders will be crucial as they look to solidify their position in the top four.

With Darcy back in the lineup, Fremantle is poised to regain their competitive edge. The return of such a pivotal player could be the catalyst the Dockers need to push for a top-four finish and set themselves up for a strong run in the finals.
