About this Event

The 2024 NRL Grand Final is locked in for Sydney's iconic Accor Stadium, the heart and soul of rugby league!

Last year, the Knights clinched their second straight NRLW title in a nail-biting win over the Titans, and the Panthers pulled off a stunning late comeback to secure their three-peat against the Broncos. The roar of nearly 82,000 fans still echoes in the stadium's walls.

The 2024 Grand Final pre-game events

Dubbed the “mini-Olympics,” Grand Final day will include a sprint race to crown the fastest man and woman in the NRL. Some of the league's biggest speedsters, like Titans’ Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Manly's Jason Saab, Dolphins' Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, and Bulldogs' Josh Addo-Carr, go head-to-head in a no-holds-barred dash for bragging rights.

The NRL is also adding even more fan-favourite challenges to the lineup— a goalkicking competition, a longest kick showdown, and maybe even a sprint race between forwards to see who’s got the wheels among the big fellas. It’s like the skills challenges you see in the NBA All-Star weekend but with a rugby league twist.

When is the NRL Grand Final?

Sunday, October 6, 2024, is the biggest day on the rugby league calendar. The NRL and NRLW Grand Finals kick into high gear starting Thursday, September 5, when the Broncos and Storm face off in a blockbuster showdown at Suncorp Stadium. This clash will set the tone for the final round of the regular season, which wraps up on Sunday, September 8, with the Knights taking on the Dolphins. Once the dust settles on Round 27, the top eight teams will dive headfirst into the Finals, each vying for their spot in the Grand Final spotlight.

What happened in last year's NRL Grand Final?

The Knights’ NRLW squad clinched their second straight title with a hard-fought 24-18 victory over the Gold Coast Titans, while the Panthers, led by a heroic Nathan Cleary, pulled off a breathtaking comeback against the Broncos in front of a packed house of 81,947 fans.

Who will feature in this year's NRL Grand Final?

As the NRL season heads into its final stretch, the top teams are jostling for the minor premiership, while a handful of clubs are clinging to the hope of making the top eight. Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers are locked in a fierce battle for the top spot, with both teams showcasing the depth and talent needed to go all the way. The Storm’s recent win against the Rabbitohs has bolstered their confidence, but the Panthers, led by the in-form Nathan Cleary, are hot on their heels, making their upcoming clash a potential decider for the minor premiership.

Meanwhile, the middle of the table is crowded, with the Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks firmly planted in the top four but facing challenges that could upset their positioning. The Roosters, with a relatively easy run home, are poised for a late-season surge, while the Sharks, riding high on recent impressive performances, aim to maintain their momentum. Teams like the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Manly Sea Eagles are also in the mix, with both showing flashes of brilliance throughout the season. However, they must navigate tough fixtures to secure their spots in the finals.

At the lower end of the top eight, the fight is far from over. The North Queensland Cowboys, Dolphins, and St George Illawarra Dragons are all in a battle for the last few finals spots, with only a handful of points separating them. The Dolphins' recent win over the Warriors has reignited their finals hopes, but with tough games ahead, they can’t afford any slip-ups. The Dragons, despite recent setbacks, still have a path to the finals, though they must address their inconsistencies to make a serious push.

The matchup that has the feel of a NRL Grand Final preview

The Penrith Panthers will host the Melbourne Storm in a highly anticipated Round 24 clash, with both teams vying for the top spot on the ladder. This game is set to be a fierce battle that could very well determine the minor premiership.

The Panthers come into this game riding high after an unbelievable comeback against the Eels, where they managed to score three tries in just three minutes, overturning a 14-point deficit. However, they'll be missing key players, with back-rower Liam Martin serving a one-match ban for Dangerous Contact and Scott Sorensen sidelined due to a hamstring injury. On a brighter note, star fullback Dylan Edwards is a possibility to return after recovering from a knee injury, and James Fisher-Harris could also make a comeback after being named among the reserves.

On the other hand, the Storm, who are currently holding the top position on the ladder, will be looking to maintain their momentum after a strong win over the Rabbitohs. Back-rower Eliesa Katoa, who missed the Souths game with a knee injury, could return to bolster their lineup. The Storm’s Round 1 victory against the Panthers, where they produced a defensive masterclass to win 8-0, will be fresh in their minds as they aim to repeat that success.

The stakes couldn't be higher, as the winner of this match will likely have a clear path to securing the minor premiership—a title the Panthers have claimed in 2020, 2022, and 2023, while the Storm last held it in 2019 and 2021.
