About this Event

The announcement came in a recent episode of The Plug podcast, where Matchbox Twenty's founding members, Rob Thomas and Paul Doucette, shared their plans for the Australian tour. During the podcast, they hinted at their imminent visit, stating, “We will be boots on the ground in Australia next year… we’ll be bringing some good friends; that is happening.”

True to their word, today, TEG Van Egmond and Matchbox Twenty are thrilled to reveal the details of their extensive 10-date Australian tour. The tour kicks off in Perth on Tuesday, 13 February, and will take the band to various cities across the country, including Adelaide, Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane. Fans can expect an unforgettable musical experience as Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage together after a long-awaited return to the Australian music scene.

When was the last Matchbox 20 Australian tour?

The iconic rock band of the '90s, whose last tour in Australia was in 2012, has just unveiled an exciting lineup of stadium shows spanning 10 dates throughout February 2024. Their eagerly anticipated 'Slow Dream Tour' is set to captivate audiences across Australia, followed by a journey to New Zealand in March.

Taking to social media, the band enthusiastically announced their Australian venture, commencing in Perth and culminating in Brisbane. The group, still comprising its original members Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Brian Yale, and Kyle Cook, promises a musical experience that fans have been eagerly awaiting.

Christo Van Egmond, the managing director of entertainment event company TEG Van Egmond, expressed his excitement about the tour, stating, “It’s incredibly thrilling to announce Matchbox Twenty's return to entertain Australian audiences in February. Australia stands as the band's second-highest-selling market! The prospect of reliving cherished memories while witnessing these two outstanding bands perform their timeless hits live is truly exhilarating."

Van Egmond continued, "Few acts have left an indelible mark on the contemporary music scene in this country, spanning from the mid-90s to the 2000s, quite like Matchbox Twenty, and the same can be said for Goo Goo Dolls. A magical night is undoubtedly guaranteed.”

This announcement coincides with the imminent release of Matchbox Twenty’s sixth studio album, "Where The Light Goes," their first in a decade, slated to hit the shelves on May 26. Fans can look forward to an electrifying fusion of new tracks and beloved classics, making this tour an unforgettable musical extravaganza.

Matchbox 20 unveil the first track from their upcoming album

The song new, titled "Wild Dogs (Running In A Slow Dream)," exudes a lively and optimistic vibe, marking the band’s return to the music scene since their 2012 LP North.

"Where the Light Goes," the band's fifth studio album, was crafted under the production expertise of Gregg Wattenberg, in collaboration with band members Paul Doucette and Kyle Cook. In the interim years since North, Matchbox 20's members ventured into various solo and collaborative projects. Frontman Rob Thomas released his fourth solo album, "Chip Tooth Smile," in 2019, and joined forces with Santana in 2021 for the single “Move.”
