About this Event

Andrea Bocelli Returns to Australia for One Night Only

Meta-description: Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli is performing just one night only at the Sydney Cricket Ground this April. We have all the information and tickets. Read on.

World-renowned vocalist Andrea Bocelli, whose powerful voice has made him a household name for decades, will bring a spectacular 70-piece orchestra and 60-person choir to Sydney on April 3. This marks the first major concert at the SCG since U2's Joshua Tree tour in 2019.

Sydney has always been a very strong market for the Maestro Bocelli, and somewhat remarkably, the show will proceed without government funding or taxpayer support.

Bocelli left a lasting impression during his 2022 tour, but the April performance was reportedly a last-minute addition to Bocelli's Asian tour schedule, strategically positioned between shows in Hanoi and Taipei.

During his 2022 Australian tour, Bocelli sold out five concerts

The previous tour saw appearances by his children Matteo and Virginia, alongside Australian stars Delta Goodrem and Natalie Imbruglia, with five sold-out shows, showing how in-demand the upcoming SCG concert will be. Bocelli will be joined by his son Matteo once again, along with Australian soprano Amy Manford and Italian singer Mariam Battistelli as special guests. Rounding out the ensemble will be flautist Andrea Griminelli and conductor Carlo Bernini, both longtime collaborators and friends of Bocelli.

Bernini, in particular, shares a deep connection with the tenor. Maestro Carlo Bernini is a fine artist who, before being a conductor, was his piano teacher. He then became one of Bocelli's closest and most trusted collaborators for the next thirty years.

One of the most recognisable voices in music

With more than 90 million albums sold worldwide and over 16 billion streams to his name, Bocelli's interpretations of classics like "The Prayer" and "Time To Say Goodbye" have transcended genre boundaries, touching listeners from classical and operatic backgrounds to more mainstream pop audiences.

Andrea Bocelli's journey to becoming one of the world's most celebrated vocalists is as compelling as his soaring tenor voice. While many know him for his chart-topping hits, fewer are familiar with the winding path that led him to musical stardom.

Interestingly, Bocelli originally set his sights on a career as a soccer player, not a musician. This dream was abruptly redirected when a sporting accident resulted in the loss of his vision. Rather than being deterred by this life-altering event, Bocelli channelled his energies into developing his extraordinary vocal talents, a decision that would ultimately change the landscape of popular classical music.

The Italian maestro's career took flight in his homeland before catapulting onto the international stage. Since his debut album in 1994, Bocelli has established himself as one of the best-selling artists in music history, with over 90 million albums sold worldwide and streaming numbers exceeding 16 billion.

His collaborative spirit has become something of a trademark throughout his career. Bocelli has shared microphones with an impressive array of musical talents spanning multiple genres – from pop icons like Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and Ed Sheeran to operatic legends including Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, and Luciano Pavarotti. When asked about his most memorable duet, the humble tenor diplomatically refuses to single out any particular collaboration, explaining that "mixing voices is a challenge, a wager, a meeting of souls."

Family plays a central role in Bocelli's life and work

His recent project, "A Family Christmas," features his children, Virginia and Matteo, bridging generations through music. The deluxe edition, released to acclaim, includes ten new tracks and showcases three distinct voices at different life stages coming together in musical harmony.

Behind Bocelli's spectacular performances – whether at Milan's Duomo or during his current nationwide tour – lies a simple but powerful source of inspiration: love. "The source of my inspiration is always the same, and I can summarise it in one word: love," Bocelli explains. "Love across the board: sensual love, love for life, for beauty, for the brotherhood that unites us, and for He who created us."

Despite his tremendous success, Bocelli's path wasn't always smooth. Before his breakthrough album "Romanza" became one of the best-selling albums in history, he faced significant industry scepticism. The eventual success exceeded even his "rosiest and most passionate expectations."

Beyond his musical contributions, Bocelli has dedicated himself to philanthropy through the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, established in 2011. The organisation focuses on education as a key to empowering people and communities, employing innovative approaches recognised by the United Nations.

Bocelli's vineyard venture combines wine and music

Few people know that beyond his musical prowess, Andrea Bocelli nurtures another passion deeply rooted in his Tuscan heritage – winemaking. The Bocelli family's connection to viticulture stretches back generations. Andrea often recalls childhood memories of "tiny sips stolen from my father's glass" and the simple wines his father crafted by hand, continuing traditions passed down from grandfather to father.

The tenor's wine venture, Bocelli1831, represents a natural extension of his artistic expression and family legacy. In partnership with respected Italian wine producer Zonin1821, Bocelli and his brother Alberto have developed a collection honouring their rural Tuscan roots while achieving the sophistication expected from the Bocelli name.

Their portfolio includes a refreshing Prosecco DOC, an elegant white IGT Tuscany blend marrying Viognier and Vermentino, and a robust red IGT Tuscany blend featuring Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
