The moment Johnson realised his approach was working wasn't during the planning stages but after completion. "I think I knew that it was going to be something special when we let go of it," he reflects. "When we let go of the creative process and just went in there and did the best job we knew how to do, it started to really fall together."

This creative momentum doesn't pause after album release – Johnson is perpetually thinking ahead. "As soon as one record comes out, I'm going to start thinking about the next one; you're only as good as your last ride."
