Cody Johnson’s Leather Deluxe Tour Hits Australia Soon

Meta-description: Cody Johnson is bringing his Leather Deluxe Tour to Australian shores very soon, and one of the last places to grab tickets is right here. Read on for more.

The Texas cowboy-turned-country superstar has been riding high after the smashing success of his 2023 album "Leather," and now, Cody Johnson is playing it live in Australia. The record, which spawned massive hits like "The Painter" and "Dirt Cheap," now has a deluxe edition packed with 13 fresh tracks that showcase why CoJo has become such a force in country music.

The buzz around his duet with Carrie Underwood, "I'm Gonna Love You," is this kind of authentic collaboration that's helped cement Johnson's reputation as both a traditionalist and an innovator in the genre. After conquering the Billboard Country Airplay charts and selling out venues across America, Johnson is bringing his unique blend of rodeo grit and heartfelt storytelling to Australia.

The man behind the music

While you don't want to take his dieting advice (he recently copped a lot of online hate for his "carnivore diet" nonsense), beyond the stage lights and chart-topping hits, Cody Johnson is a family man whose home life might surprise fans. Despite his meteoric rise in country music, Johnson recently revealed in a candid Coyote Country interview that he's actually "the lowest man on the totem pole" when it comes to musical preferences in his own household.

His daughters Clara Mae (9) and Cori (7) have developed their own country music obsessions, but it's not dad's songs getting constant airplay. Instead, the Johnson home reverberates with the sounds of Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and Megan Moroney – played so frequently that Johnson jokingly admits he's "so sick of their music."

"I love Carrie. I love Lainey, and I recently met Megan. She's one of the nicest girls I've ever met," Johnson explained before adding with fatherly exasperation, "but they blare it constantly at our house."

Despite his daughters' interest in possibly following his musical footsteps, Johnson has cautioned them about the less glamorous realities of the industry. While they see the private jets and luxury that come with his current success, he reminds them they weren't around during his struggling years when he was "literally starving for country music" and couldn't even afford McDonald's.

Crafting country music that surprisingly resonates

Cody Johnson's approach to creating music reflects his authentic character – thoughtful, deliberate, and uncompromisingly genuine. Unlike artists who chase trends, Johnson's creative process remains rooted in traditional values while embracing the natural evolution of his artistry.

When it comes to album development, Johnson typically begins his creative journey nearly a year before stepping into the studio. "I usually do probably a year before each record, maybe longer than that," he explains. This extended runway isn't merely about songwriting – it's about immersion. Johnson deliberately surrounds himself with music outside his immediate creative circle, listening to potential cuts that might spark inspiration for his own writing.

This careful curation process reflects Johnson's unique philosophy: he doesn't force creativity into predetermined boxes. Working closely with producer Trent Willmon, whom Johnson describes as "like a brother to me," the pair intentionally avoid chasing specific sounds or trends. "We're not going to try and make anything or go any direction; we're just going to put together the best songs and record that we feel describes me and my music," Johnson reveals.

Perhaps the most telling thing about Johnson's creative integrity is his willingness to set aside his own compositions when another songwriter's work better serves the album.

For his breakthrough album "Gotta Be Me," Johnson shelved several of his own pieces in favour of songs like "Cowboy Life," recognising that sometimes the better song wins regardless of who wrote it. This level of artistic honesty is surprisingly rare in an industry often driven by ego.

Johnson's collaborative approach to songwriting follows wisdom passed down from mentor David Lee: "Write the song no matter what. Whether it's pop, rock, country or gospel, if it's being given to you, you write the song for what it is… Give the song the integrity and respect."

This philosophy allows Johnson to explore diverse creative territories while maintaining authenticity. The moment Johnson realised his approach was working wasn't during the planning stages but after completion. "I think I knew that it was going to be something special when we let go of it," he reflects. "When we let go of the creative process and just went in there and did the best job we knew how to do, it started to really fall together."

This creative momentum doesn't pause after album release – Johnson is perpetually thinking ahead. "As soon as one record comes out, I'm going to start thinking about the next one; you're only as good as your last ride."
