About this Event

After Melbourne and Brisbane dates sold out faster than you can say "pretty fly," The Offspring rockers have decided to give devotees another chance to catch them.

The band, fresh off the release of their latest album SUPERCHARGED, will now perform second shows at Rod Laver Arena and Brisbane Entertainment Centre, much to the delight of those who missed out on the initial ticket rush. They're bringing along Canadian pop-punk veterans Simple Plan for the ride to help with your nostalgia!

This huge double-header tour marks another chapter in The Offspring's love affair with Australian audiences, following their successful 2022 run with Sum 41. Destroy All Lines, the tour's promoter, has dubbed these additions the "second and definitely final" shows for each city and tickets are already moving fast.

What's the deal with The Offspring's return to Australian shores?

The band's recent promotional visit to Melbourne, where they played an intimate show at The Forum that sold out in a mere 30 seconds, has fueled the need for their upcoming arena run.

During their promo visit, guitarist Noodles dropped a few hints about the expanding tour schedule that is now a reality. Those hints materialised into additional shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena and Brisbane's Entertainment Centre after the initial dates in both cities sold out rapidly.

The timing couldn't be more significant for the California punk rockers, who are marking several milestone anniversaries while touring their latest album, SUPERCHARGED. With forty years of band history under their belts and the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough album "Smash" coinciding with the tour, these shows will nicely contrast the past and present.

The tour kicks off at Adelaide's AEC Arena on May 4th before heading to Melbourne for two massive shows at Rod Laver Arena. Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena follows on May 11th, with the tour wrapping up in Brisbane with back-to-back shows at the Entertainment Centre.

The Offspring's latest album SUPERCHARGED

It may be somewhat controversial, but we think the new Offspring album arrives as a welcome course correction after 2021's Let the Bad Times Roll. That was a mixed bag of nostalgic thrills and experimental missteps. The new thirty-minute record, however, showcases the California punk veterans attempting to recapture their mid-90s magic while cautiously testing new waters again – but nailing it.

The lead single, "Light it Up", delivers high-octane punk rock that puts the band on the map. It's joined by standout tracks like "Hanging by a Thread" and "The Fall Guy," which successfully channel the energy and hooks of the band's glory days. These moments prove The Offspring can still craft compelling punk rock when they stick to their strengths.

However, the album's experimental detours yield mixed results. "Come to Brazil" attempts an ambitious fusion of Metallica-style metal with pop-punk sensibilities, but the execution falls short of its intriguing concept. Similarly, "Get Some" ventures into rock 'n' roll territory with unconventional vocal choices from frontman Dexter Holland that don't quite land.

The production significantly improved from their previous release, which suffered from notably flat sound. SUPERCHARGED brings back some of the dynamic punch that characterised their classic albums, though it occasionally struggles to find consistency across its ten tracks.

What emerges is an album that shows both promise and growing pains. For every triumphant return to form like "Truth in Fiction," there's a track like "Make it All Right" that leans too heavily on contemporary pop-punk conventions. The record's artwork pays homage to their classic Smash and Metallica's Ride the Lightning, perhaps unintentionally highlighting the band's current position between honouring their past and seeking new directions.

While SUPERCHARGED might not reach the heights of their mid-90s peak, it demonstrates The Offspring's willingness to acknowledge their strengths and push beyond their comfort zone, even if not every experiment succeeds.

Why you should probably grab tickets to The Offspring’s Australian tour

Four decades into their career, The Offspring are claiming to be better than ever. In a recent interview on their last Australian tour, guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman and frontman Dexter Holland spoke candidly about their evolution as a band, particularly highlighting their growth during the pandemic years.

They discussed how the enforced break from touring became an unexpected blessing, allowing the punk rock veterans to fine-tune their craft in ways they hadn't before. Rather than letting the downtime stagnate their progress, the band used it as an opportunity for musical introspection. They meticulously examined every aspect of their performance (guitar techniques/vocal harmonies) to ensure each element was precisely locked in. The band spent hours analysing their right-hand strumming patterns and vocal arrangements, making sure they weren't simply doubling parts but creating proper harmonies.

This dedication to improvement has led both Noodles and Holland to declare that fans will see the best version of The Offspring yet during their upcoming 2025 Australian tour. It's a bold statement from a band that has sold millions of albums and recently celebrated their song "The Kids Aren't Alright" hitting one billion streams.

Their confidence isn't unfounded – their latest album SUPERCHARGED showcases a band that knows their strengths while still pushing boundaries. Working with longtime producer Bob Rock, they've managed to capture what Holland describes as the core of their music: melody. Even with their recent experimental ventures, they've maintained the distinctive sound that sets them apart from their peers. The Offspring might indeed be hitting their stride just as they claim, but you'll only find out for sure if you catch one of the upcoming shows!
